His intensive course has given me tools and the confidence to teach and awakened an interest to learn so much more. Jacqueline created an atmosphere which brought us together as a group, motivated us and encouraged us to support one another - I feel I have made friends for life!

I have had a brilliant 3 weeks at Yogashala. I felt appreciated, supported and encouraged as an individual and this has greatly boosted my confidence. The trainer took the time to give me some advice to improve on my own personal practise which was much appreciated. Also i needed some extra practise teaching and this was provided which was very helpful for my professional development. I spent an amazing three weeks with amazing people that i feel lucky to have met and i was sad when it came to an end. I would definitely return there to do the pregnancy and postnatal course and my Advanced teacher training. The setting is beautiful and the meals were delicious. The activities were fun and I learnt so much about yoga. I came on the course to develop my own personal practise but instead have come away and am now working on a career in yoga. It was an experience im deeply thankful for.

The course is excellent in terms of practical teaching skills and experience - being exposed to teaching rapidly, and to teaching external attendees for classes right away is fantastic. The clear focus on safety and alignment will also absolutely stand me in good stead going forwards. It is clear that the leader of the course is tremendously experienced and knowledgeable in the field and she responded really well to the overall feedback from the group as the course went along as well edited.

Yogashala Ibiza’s 300-hour advanced teacher-training prepares its trainees to teach principles and techniques of yoga that are more advanced, and to teach with greater skill, than could reasonably be expected of an RYT 200.

Yogashala Ibiza

So we’ve got our new logo here at YSI that we’re really pleased with. We think it really says ‘Ibiza’ but also with the emphasis of the heart above the ‘I’ – all about YOU and loving yourself. Practicing yoga, a healthy diet, detoxing, being in the sunshine, seeing and appreciating beautiful sights – it’s all about taking care of yourself here. But is this selfish? No! Taking care of yourself through our classes, detox holidays and teacher training workshops can make you and the people that you care about around you; happier, fitter and brighter. Ibiza is a hedonist’s paradise – everyone is engaged in the pursuit of happiness, but in reality “Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within” - Helen Keller . We think that is what this logo says about us, and how at YSI you will find the teachers that dance with the rhythm and beat of your heart to bring you to your own happiness and health.

There are tons of ways to get involved in your own pursuit of happiness and health with us this summer; whether it be a Detox Holiday to cleanse your systems out, a Teacher-Training course to allow you to learn more about your body and your practice, or a yoga class with any of the YSI team. We’re giving you tons of reasons why you can’t say no – our 3-for-2 private classes, free classes during May and June and a beautiful climate in a wonderful location to enjoy it all in. Realise your dream of taking some time out for yourself, and as Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”

Jacqueline at the BWY London Yoga Festival 2015

BWY London Yoga Festival

For those of you who really can’t make it to the island this summer, you’ll get a slice of Jacqueline in the UK when she comes to the British Wheel of Yoga – London Yoga Festival 2015. Jacqueline is a guest tutor there giving a workshop on Jivamukti and Pranayama. This is happening on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June at the City of Westminster College, Paddington Green, W2 1NB. Jacqueline will be there on the Saturday giving her workshops on Asana and Yoga Anatomy giving talks on the exploration of movement, anatomy, physiology, cellular breathing and techniques including primary cleansing with the breath. To see her page on the BWY website, go to here:

Today on the island our YSI teacher Corina gave her Dynamic Flow class at La Galeria Elefante. People had spoken about their rest over the Easter weekend and how it is to have a day off practise, to really let the body recover and rejuvenate. Corina is doing her Advanced Teacher Training with Jacqueline at YSI and so Jacqueline was observing this class for Corina to give her feedback and teaching tips, invaluable pieces of advice for a teacher.

Corina’s class worked us all hard today and was a lovely sequence of postures – I for one was thoroughly worked out by the end of it, and left revitalised for the day ahead. Starting off with breathing exercises and gentle twists, we then moved on to core-work for our flat bikini bellies! Flowing sequences then warmed us up, as did the ‘Half Press Up’ version of Chaturanga that Corina talked us through. This is where from Plank pose the knees drop, the toes untuck, and a low Cobra is done instead of Upward Dog. This is an easier version of Chaturanga to get your body stronger in a fair and real way, that any beginner can do. It is important in yoga to not push yourself too hard, this is the practice of non-violence or ‘Ahimsa’ – B.K.S. Iyengar describes this, ‘It is more than a negative command not to kill, for it has a wider positive meaning, love.’ This comes back to the YSI principle loving yourself! By the end of many repetitions of this exercise all of our arms were quivering a little, and Corina knew we were working hard, but with honest respect for our bodies.

There was a hot and sweaty balancing series of postures including Tree Pose, Warrior 1 and Warrior 3 with smooth transitions between them all. We finished up with some well-deserved floor stretches, and twists of the abdomen to spark our metabolism off for the day. As we rested in final Savasana Corina came around and gave gentle assists and head massages to deepen our relaxation state, and played her hand cymbals - relaxing, clear and high-pitched tones, this percussion instrument is usually used while sitting.

Yoga ClassesAfter the class I got thinking – Corina interchangeably used Sanskrit terms for the yoga postures with the English translations. Should we say ‘Surya Namaskara’ or simply a ‘Flow’? Is it important for us as students in a class to know the Sanskrit terms? I think the answer to this is no – the reason why Sanskrit terms are still used is because it allows for participation in a global conversation and practice. The English translations are not always accurate, and are simply our interpretation of the ancient Sanskrit language of India where Yoga originally comes from. If you’re a keen student and you do want to know the Sanksrit terms, this doesn’t imply that you believe in any particular philosophy at all - it just allows you to accurately talk about postures with fellow students and teachers. But equally if all those names go way over your head – don’t worry, just relax, focus on your breath, and let your teacher dance you through your class here at YSI.
