travel the world and teach yoga

travel the world and teach yogaJacqueline Purnell is an amazing Yoga teacher and her Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher Trainings are excellent.

Exactly one year ago I trained with her.
I called her the yoga lexicon, as she could answer all my questions precisely.
She has a huge knowledge and her softness and motherly way to explain helped me to even reach deeper to the real roots of Yoga.
We had been a strong group of 14 participants 4 of them Doctors.
We also went into the area how Yoga can help with medical issues.
The way she welcomed us in her beautiful Yoga center, close to the sea, we could listen to the waves in our meditations and sunrise and sunset spots, were very close by and I used those places to meditate on my own.
Sol her beautiful husband cooked honest food for us only products from the island.
Jacqueline was every second of the training full there with her beautiful presence, concentration and dedication.

travel the world and teach yogaI am travelling the world and I am teaching Yoga everywhere. The last training with Jaqueline gave me such a profound deep knowledge that I finally call myself a YOGA TEACHER.

Also could I connect Jaqueline in the last year with upcoming questions and she would be at my side with her knowledge and she would let me practise what I wanted to teach.

I am delighted I chose Jacqueline Purnell's Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher Training on Ibiza and I would always do it again and I recommend it to everybody.
Thank you Jacqueline.

“Our instructor, Jacqueline Purnell, who at once demonstrated a friendly, pleasant & well-informed teaching style. Her awareness of anatomy & physiology was impressive, but she created an atmosphere in which we felt very comfortable & got us sharing our own experience.

A workshop for Teachers by Jacqueline Purnell in SurreyYou already know everything you need about backbending.’ said Jacqui, ‘Today will be about enhancement.’ She went on to explain that Upward Bow/Wheel/Chakrasana is a Gateway posture & can open up a new dimension of backbending. Her talk was broken up by small group discussions & plenaries. We looked at Precautions, Benefits Postures that can lead up to Upward Bow, Philosophical & Psychological aspects of backbends. We discussed the Psoas at length & Jacqui gave us magnificent handouts of muscles with colouring-in possibilities! The knowledge Jacqui shared entered our bodies as we practised on the mat under her expert guidance.
We had a half hour for lunch & then happily returned to our class, which ended with a lovely guided Relaxation.”

Education is our passion!

Education is our passion!

There are many positives and many negatives to virtually every situation in our lives. This can be particularly true when looking at the area of education.

The whole question of education is coming under the spotlight.

While it is important that we look closely at any potential consequences to our actions and choices, with regard to life long learning we tend to find that our life seems to be more pleasant and our health and productivity tend to improve when we do our utmost to adopt an optimistic outlook. We would like to share our positive feelings for the future.

Education is our passion!

To quote Dr. Ruth Gilmore who has been a great inspiration to our teaching and our Courses. Particularly with regard to our emphasis and focus on Anatomy and Physiology.

Our mind and body are the two sides of the same coin”.
Dr. Ruth Gilmore

We believe Anatomy and Physiology to be that basis of everything we seek to create with you and fundamental to those wishing to become a safe, interesting and ever evolving teacher of Yoga.

At Yogashalaibiza we strive to ensure the teaching and learning experience for our students continually improves.

We strive to offer fair and impartial opportunities for student feedback on our Courses and we have an official complaint process. We have also offer Continuous Professional Development opportunities.

Education is our passion!

All of these are in place to ensure that we continue to evolve in ways that not only prepare our graduates to teach, also to bolster our ability to continue to support our students when they take their knowledge and experience gained from the Course out into the world.

Because of our own experience with family members who have been diagnosed within the dyslexia continuum, we have from the outset wanted to make our Courses accessible and practical in nature.

Today the UK Universities are in the mainstream news media, regarding a new assessment of teaching standards by the government of the UK.

The basis for the new assessment has been unveiled, and we are being introduced to the new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
There is a Gold, Silver and Bronze award within the Framework.

Looking at The Independent: “Britain's elite universities are failing to achieve teaching excellence, official rankings have revealed, as the Government publishes its first major assessment of teaching standards in higher education.

More than half of Russell Group institutions – traditionally considered to be the best in the country – did not score a gold rating after entering the new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).”

According to The Independent newspaper today of the 21 Russell Group universities that took part, just eight (38 per cent) were given a gold rating, including Oxford and Cambridge; 10 (48 per cent) were awarded silver and three (14 per cent) achieved a bronze.

Education is our passion!

Again The Independent states:
“The University of Portsmouth, Coventry, De Montfort University and Bangor are among those awarded gold status, despite sitting further down in traditional university league tables.”

Professor Dominic Shellard, vice chancellor of De Mortfort,  said the results illustrated “a real watershed moment for British universities”.
“To me, the TEF really demonstrates the passing of the old guard and the ushering in of a new hierarchy,” he told The Independent.

It seems the world of education is being turned upside down, which we rather welcome!

This has sparked new debate over teaching and learning opportunities and fee structures, which are always a hot topic here at Yogashalaibiza. We are restructuring our own fee system to be more adaptable for our students. Here at Yogashalaibiza we are so pleased to say that we are now embarking on a new phase for the future.

Again it is with great thanks to all of our students and Teacher Training and Module students who have worked with us here at Yogashalaibiza over the last (nearly 10) years. As we have always said education is always a two way process and we give heartfelt thanks to all who have been involved with us and especially to the local Spanish families who we work with and we hope to continue to find new ways to support you into the future.

Jacqueline is teaching a BWY In Service Training Day in Surrey in early September we will blog about it shortly.

Watch this space for more news as we move forwards.

Yoga CPD Day at the Light Centre

YOGA CPD DAY AT THE LIGHT CENTRE

YOGA CPD DAY AT THE LIGHT CENTRE
Venue: The Light Centre, 114 London Wall, City of London
Date: Saturday 23 July 2016, 1000 till 1600
Organisers: BWY London
Topic: Backbends
Instructor: Jacqueline Purnell

It was fine weather & The Light Centre is a short distance from Moorgate Underground & relatively easy to find, as many nearby their buildings have their numbers on the door. The Light Centre is modern, clean & very attractive. A receptionist was on duty & we found the room easily because it was signposted & labeled. There was a kettle & a great range of teas & nice biscuits & so forth. Yoga mats, bolsters & blocks in tasteful colours abounded in every room!

Anthony Grover, who is also national treasurer of BWY, introduced our instructor, Jacqueline Purnell, who at once demonstrated a friendly, pleasant & well-informed teaching style. Her awareness of anatomy & physiology was impressive, but she created an atmosphere in which we felt very comfortable & got us sharing our own experience.

Yoga Teacher Training

"I had lived and worked in London for 7 years Marketing and Events, investing everything I had into my job. I moved to Sydney after working on the 2012 Olympics because I wanted to get out of London and it was there that I discovered a new way of living. I believe that environments can shape us and I was in the most beautiful environment; Ocean views, sunshine and beaches.

I lived in Sydney for 18 months waking up every day grateful for the ocean views, sunshine and beaches, and discovered some amazing yoga studios and coastal runs, pretty soon fitness became a bigger focus for me than it had been for many years. The long hours and travelling for work over time had seen me prioritise my job rather than my well being.

I realised I wasn’t I wasn’t fulfilled anymore, despite the beautiful surroundings, being passionate is really important to me, I’ve never been able to just sail through a job without actually being able to care about the outcome and if I could make a difference.

MyYoga Teacher Training mum was coming to visit me in Sydney, I’d decided that I needed to go home and address the issues I was having but before we left we took a road trip to Byron Bay. Torrential rains every day meant that the nearest and best activity to do was a 90 minute yoga session every day in a leaky tipi tent run by Vita Yoga. Those 90 minutes every day for a week gave me perspective. I had practiced yoga for years and loved how it had physically made me feel but that week I finally genuinely connected with the mental benefits and I would leave practice feeling full of love, gratitude and happiness, despite the huge unknown waiting for me when I got home. It was there I made the decision that I wanted others to experience how yoga had made me feel for themselves.

I came home and within the first week found a studio in Guildford I really enjoyed attending – Red Hot Yoga. That made all the difference, connecting with another environment that lifted me the moment I walked in.

I took what I knew would be my last event freelance job that summer and used the money to invest into the Yoga Shala course in Ibiza, I just wanted to take the leap and be 100% invested.

The 3 weeks were hugely intense, we were exhausted but elated and blessed to be surrounded by beautiful landscapes and an open air space to practice. The 8 others on my course were hugely focused too and we supported each other day and night to get through the challenges, the exams and the physical exhaustion.

Within a week of landing back I had an interview with a local yoga studio, Akram in Woking, it’s a haven, set in a town centre but when you’re in there you feel a million miles away from anywhere. I now teach 3 classes a week for them, and have regular students. Receiving a positive comment from a student after a class leaves you floating on air for days, I really just try to relax them, to help make them understand there doesn’t need to be an expectation or pressure but to enjoy their practice.

To help support my income I took a part-time Educator role with Lululemon yoga/fitness clothing brand, so I’m now surrounded by even more yogis and inspirational teachers, and then a few months later I’ve become braver and set up my own classes. I now teach hip hop yoga in Balham every Sunday (inspired by a class I took in Boston!) and have two classes in a converted barn in Dorking on a farmland occupied by emus and chickens – being close to nature and the clean air is amazing for meditation.

I meet up with fellow teacher and all round fitness guru Claire Donnelly from my Yoga Shala course every week for coffee and we share our teaching stories and two other girls Lara and Ivy, also from Yoga Shala, have been coming to my Balham classes. I feel very blessed to have met them all.

Yoga has become the love of my life and although teaching is challenging and every week there could be a confidence crisis – I’m told by even the most experienced that this still happens no matter how long you teach for however, It all becomes worth it for that feeling at the end of class when you ask your students to open their eyes, and you can offer a huge smile before saying “Namaste” because you can feel something positive has just happened, there’s nothing like it."
